Across展은 넓은 스펙트럼에 걸치는 다양한 관심사를 갖는 한 미디어 아티스트 집단의 작품들을 선보이는 그룹전이다. 소개되는 작품들은 레이저 테크놀로지와 비디오 영상처리 시스템에서 인터액티브 웨어러블 컴퓨팅과 생물학적 기계장치들을 거쳐 물질적인 흐름을 형성하는 키네틱 작품과 거울 형태의 작품, 그리고 비선형적 언어구조에 이르기까지 광범위하다.

본 전시의 다섯 명의 작가들은 지난 4년간 홍익대학교 세종캠퍼스 조형대학 디지털미디어디자인전공에서 디지털 테크놀로지와 예술의 만남 사업단을 구성하여 한국연구재단의 WCU(World Class University) 사업을 함께 수행해 왔다. 본 사업단의 마지막 공동 전시가 될 Across展은 각 작가들의 세계를 경험할 수 있도록 선정된 작품들을 선보인다.

Across라는 전시명을 통해 작가들은 건너감을 지향한다. 본 전시는 여러 작가들의 관심사를 아우르는, 미디어아트의 다양한 분야들을 이어주는, 또한 기술과 예술을 넘나들게 해주는, 그리고 본 사업단의 지난날과 앞날을 건네주는, 작은 징검다리와 같이 존재하고자 한다. 작가들은 본 전시를 통해 함께 했던 WCU 사업의 종료 시점을 건너 앞으로 서로 떨어져 있어도 언제까지나 동료애를 가지고 함께할 것을 기약한다.

ACROSS brings together an eclectic group of media artists whose interests and projects span a wide spectrum: from laser technology and video-driven systems, through interactive wearables, biomimetic-inspired works and mechanical patterns of flow, to representational systems and non-linear linguistic structures.

The five practitioners have spent the last four years working under one roof: the World Class University Program (WCU) &8211 a higher education program of the Korean government and National Research Foundation of Korea. As part of the WCU program they have constituted a research team in media art and design at Hongik University’s Sejong campus.

ACROSS presents the team’s final joint production. As suggested by its name, the show is a symbolic passageway across new terrain, signifying the end of the WCU program, and the new beginnings that await each team member. Accordingly, the exhibition offers the opportunity to experience aion of the artists’ personal works.
